What Your SASSA SRD Status Means — And What to Do Next
Seeing your result is only the first step. Each status requires a different action. Here is exactly what to do for each one:
✅ Approved — with payment date
Your grant is confirmed for this month. Wait for your payment date shown on the screen. You will also receive an SMS. No action needed.
✅ Approved — no payment date yet
Approved but no date shown yet. First check that your banking details are correct at srd.sassa.gov.za. Dates are assigned in batches — check again in 2–3 days.
⌛ Pending
SASSA is still verifying your application for this month. Check again in 2–3 days. Pending does not mean declined. If it stays pending for more than 30 days, call 0800 60 10 11.
❌ Declined — Income Detected
SASSA found income in your account above R624/month. Submit an appeal immediately at srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals with bank statements showing the income was not regular employment. You have 90 days.
❌ Declined — Other Reason
Read the specific reason shown next to your result. Submit an appeal at srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals within 90 days. Each month must be appealed separately.
🕵 Identity Verification Failed
Your ID details do not match Home Affairs records. You cannot fix this online. Visit your nearest SASSA office in person with your green ID book or smart card.
🏠 Bank Account Pending
Approved, but your banking details are missing or incorrect. Update them immediately at srd.sassa.gov.za. The account must be in your own name.
📋 Referred to SASSA
A SASSA official will manually review your case. This is not a rejection. Wait up to 30 days. If nothing happens after 30 days, call 0800 60 10 11.

What to Do When Your Status Has Been Stuck for Weeks
Many South Africans find their status does not change for a long time. Here is what to do depending on how long you have been waiting:
-
1
Pending for more than 30 days
Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 and ask for a manual review. Write down the reference number they give you for follow-up.
-
2
Declined every month even though you have no income
SASSA’s system may be detecting an old employment record or a family member’s bank deposit in your account. Submit an appeal with three months of bank statements showing no regular income.
-
3
Identity Verification Failed for more than 2 weeks
You must visit a SASSA office in person. Bring your green ID book or smart card. You cannot resolve this online or by phone.
-
4
Approved but no money for more than 5 days after your payment date
Check your banking details first at srd.sassa.gov.za. If details are correct, call Postbank on 0800 53 54 55. If you still have an old Gold Card, replace it immediately — Gold Cards stop working after 31 August 2026.
-
5
Cannot log into the portal at all
Make sure you are using the same phone number you applied with. If you changed your number and did not update it with SASSA, you will not be able to check your status online. Visit a SASSA office to update your number.

Fix: Use your green ID book or smart card to confirm the correct number -
!
Not updating banking details after changing banks
If you switched banks or opened a new account, SASSA will still try to pay your old account. Update your details before your next payment date.
